7. WhatsApp groups - WhatsApp is the best place to go if you want to organise a training run, find a lift to an event or just chat about the club. We have groups for each training group and league, and a social group for other running related chat. Please speak to your coach for an invitation, and see the protocols below:

If all else fails, It’s good to talk! – We are a friendly bunch, come along and ask at the next training session 🙂

Social Media and WhatsApp protocols

  • The club’s social media accounts are intended primarily for the sharing of club news, race information, race photos, and club related updates. They are also a welcome space to share running successes of members outside of club related events

  • Important information such as details of upcoming events and races should be posted in as a WhatsApp Announcement, in the relevant WhatsApp group, and in the Weekly Update email which is the primary place for club communications.

  • Members should consider that there are many members on each group, some of whom they may not know personally and should therefore keep general chat to a minimum. If the group admin considers there is too much chat between a small group, they may discreetly ask the members to take the chat offline. Please note: The ‘Barnet club chat’ group is the place for more social-oriented chat (ie members can leave this group without worrying that they will miss information regarding training and upcoming races, as long as they still receive Announcements).

  • All messaging should remain appropriate, and members should consider the wide range of people that are welcome in the club. Anything deemed discriminatory, offensive, or inappropriate, or which could be interpreted as such - or messages which are against the above protocols - will be removed by a group admin.

  • If any member has a concern about communication within a WhatsApp group or through any of our social media channels, they should raise it with the group admin, a member of the club’s committee, or one of the Club Welfare Officers (Di Godin and Scott Fraser).
