Cambridge Half Marathon

On Sunday 5th March twelve Stags competed in the Cambridge Half Marathon.

It was an overcast and very cold day but that didn’t freeze our spirits although it came close. Cambridge had been closed for our benefit and it felt like many of the residents (not the students obviously who were still in bed) had come out to cheer us from the roadside. It was a single lap including some roads not open to the public between historic university buildings as well as criss-crossing the river. It felt special as well as beautiful and blissfully flat! A very well-organised, fast and friendly race within an hour’s drive of London; you couldn’t wish for more. Highly recommended and many of us will return next year.

Many runners were taking photos as they ran but not the Stags who were focused on racing which explains the many great performances! Brian Lallaway led the Stags home, surprising himself by running under 1:45, closely followed by Stelios Michael running in memory of his father, while Geraldine Stapleton comprehensively smashed her PB. Stephanie De’Ath, Agnes Jacobs and Ann Phillips all came in under 2 hours in their first Half Marathon which is magnificent.

Special thanks are due to Di Godin who helped promote the race to Club members and set up and led a very sociable Sunday Long Run training group for participants (and others). You can’t beat training and racing with friends. Thank you Di.

Brian Lallaway led the Stags home in a time of 1:43:14 followed by Stelios Michael (1:44:27), Nick Scott (1:49:50), Davina Gutteridge (1:52:49), Geraldine Stapleton (1:55:59), Stephanie De’Ath (1:57:01), Agnes Jacobs (1:57:30), Ann Phillips (1:59:58), David Scott (2:01:35), Ros de la Bertauche (2:13:26), Oana Labontu-Radu (2:18:44) and Di Godin (2:20:03).
