Welcome to the Winter Season!

Those of you who have competed in the summer competitions such as the Southern Athletics and the Veterans Track and Field Leagues, the Mid-Week Road Races and, of course, the club’s Three-Legged Race should make the most of the leg-resting month of September. Our winter season kicks off on 4th October with the first Chingford League race.

Club members are strongly encouraged to take part in our League matches. Members do not pay race entry fees but do need to contact the relevant Team Managers to get registered in advance of the races.

The Club competes in two leagues with races scheduled between October and March. The Chingford League https://chingfordleague.co.uk/ comprises seven fixtures with a mix of 5K and 5m distances, some on tarmac and some cross country as well as a 4-person 3K cross country relay. The League describes itself as offering “serious competition for fast athletes combined with an inclusive ethos to encourage newer runners to give it a go”. Except for the two 5K races men and women race together. David Scott is the Team Manager.

The five races of the Metropolitan Cross Country ‘Met’ League https://metleague.run/ are all about 8K over courses that vary considerably in terms of how hilly they are and, of course, how muddy they are depending on the weather. There are usually large numbers of competitors – and plenty of very fast ones! Men and women race separately. Dave Byrne and Anna Murray are the Team Managers.

There are also races at County level (most members are eligible by birth or residency to compete in either Middlesex or Hertfordshire events), Southern region and National level. Please see the Winter fixture list or contact Team Manager, Anneli Sydenham for details about entering these County and Championship races.
