Looking forward to the Metropolitan Cross Country League 2023-24
Your team managers, Dave Byrne, Anna Murray, and Brian Lallaway, who has kindly volunteered to join us this year, will be supporting our athletes at the Met League races. We will register our athletes and have your race numbers ready at the first fixture and be there to cheer you home at the finish line.
Our Women gained promotion and are going to be in Division One this year and will face the top clubs. Looking at the points by clubs in the top two divisions, we are more than able to hold our own – but we do need at least six runners in every race.
Our Men’s team were hampered last season by variable turnout and are in Division 2 again. With once again huge thanks to the fab guys who turned out last season the Met league does require our strong runners to turn out for as many races as possible and plenty of them – the top 10 home for each club score points in Division Two. The Met League attracts a large field of runners and finishing in the top 100 on race day is tough – but we do have the talent and the numbers in the club.
We have a fantastic mix of youth and experience in our club, and both are useful when running 8km across fields and parks, sometimes muddy, sometimes hilly, and sometimes in weather where anyone sensible would stay indoors…but the benefits to fitness, conditioning and strength of a good winter cross country season are very well established.
Everyone is welcome to come along and race, but we do hope that those of you who train with our higher-level group sessions will challenge each other to participate – and for members who don’t train with us, this is a chance to support your club.
