Buntingford 10 incorporating the Herts Vets Championships
On Sunday 28th December twenty one Stags competed in the Buntingford 10 miler which is fantastic given the time of year but that’s Stags for you and it proved a great day out and a welcome break from Festive excess. Sadly, Kelvin and Calvin spent the morning on the A10 due to car trouble; they will get lifts next year! Numbers competing, however, were up significantly on the previous year which is an indication of the great progress the Club is making in terms of recruitment and race participation.
The Buntingford 10 is a great race which always sells out, in large part because it is both friendly and very well organised. The weather was cold with light winds which proved ideal for racing and a definite improvement on the wet and freezing conditions we have experienced at this fixture before. The race is run entirely on roads and pavements, and it is certainly undulating; the bigger hills are in the first half of the race and for many of us it is one race where we can guarantee negative splits.
It proved to be a great morning with the highlight being Geraldine’s fantastic 3rd place FV65 in the Herts Vets Champs against very tough opposition. Among the other highlights were big PBs for Sarhan and Jenny who led our men and women home. There were also big PBs for Brian and Nick and great 10 mile debuts for Chloe, Kathy and Anneli. Karen and Steph both on the long road to race fitness after injury and illness had fine runs and David and Dave were very happy with their races too.
Lots of other great performances and as the photos testify plenty of big smiles and terrific Team Spirit. Well done everyone!
