Hatfield 5 incorporating the Herts Vets Championships

On Sunday 30th November a magnificent twenty-seven Stags took part in the Hatfield 5 which incorporated the Herts Vets Champs.

It’s a terrific race, chip-timed, power of 10 friendly, very well organised, lots of parking at Herts University campus, and close by. It’s also as flat as advertised and for the fast runners who started near the front it is certainly a fast race although for those of us nearer the back the start proved very congested and the narrow paths made over-taking a little tricky but all in all a great course. The weather was good too; nice and sunny although chilly.

It proved a great day for the Club. In the Herts County Vets Champs Alan Morris was 2nd M60, Jo Kent was 2nd W55 and Brenda Fee was 2nd W75 which is fantastic! In the open contest Nehal Lavey-Khan was 2nd M35 and Geraldine Stapleton and Ros de la Bertauche were 2nd and 3rd respectively W70.

Nehal led our men home closely followed by Alex Shuker. Gareth Senior had a great race too and there were great contests between team mates such as Jerry Bryan and Alex Renton while Matt Clark proved to everyone he prefers tarmac to mud.

In the women’s contest Scarlett Kent, running alongside mum Jo, led the way with a fine run and Chloe Marshall showed she had fully recovered from her bad cold while Pear Brown gave it her all as did Kathryn Ellis.

Needless to say there were PBs for Nehal and Anneli Sydenham and for Sarhan Rahman too which is terrific.

Great Team Spirit as always and lots of great performances and smiles. Well done everyone!
