Hitchin 10K incorporating the Herts Senior Champs

Sunday 3rd May proved to be a great day for the Stags at the Hitchin 10K.

Two years ago, 10 of us competed in this race, last year 14 but this year 36 of us entered and competed which is more than any other Club. That alone deserves celebration, but we had much more to celebrate not least Herts Team Bronze Medals for both our men (Ed, Will, Jerry and Nick) and women (Kath, Jo and Scarlett). In addition, Scarlett, Karen and Geraldine were Age Category Winners too which is fantastic!

Victoria F had a fine debut in the 10K, and Ed (a magnificent 6th on the day), Sarhan, Brian, Geraldine and Charlotte C secured PBs. It was great to see four of our runners (Geraldine, Ros de la B, Ros T and Ann) who had competed in the London Marathon a week earlier! racing, and they had fine runs. There were many other great performances too notably Jenny, Jerry and Tom De C. It also was nice to see our wonderful 2nd claim pair Annabelle and Charlie and they were terrific too. Di in her final race before her knee operation had an excellent run and we wish her well.

It’s a great race, although certainly not as flat as we were led to believe, very well organised and once the sun came out it was a beautiful day too. The race started and finished in Hitchin’s pretty town centre and included lovely countryside as well. Once the race was over and our many medals awarded, we made the most of the bustling town centre and its coffee shops.

It’s a great start to the Summer Season and Team Spirit was terrific as always.
