London Cross Country Championships
This ever popular event, held at iconic Parliament Hill on Saturday 8th November, is organised by the South of England Athletics Association (“SEAA”) but is always held on the same day as the London Youth Games, where several of the Club’s amazing young athletes were in action, but not for Barnet & District AC – they were running for the London Brough of Barnet.
The weather was very mild, and the course was dry and firm – very different to the quagmire encountered by our cross country enthusiasts back in February when they ran in the national Championships! (I know as I was one of them!). Therefore, short spikes or trail shoes were the order of the day.
A total of 15 Barnet women competed in the 6km race and came 17th team out of 28 completed teams.
A total of 16 Barnet men competed in the 10km race (actually 10.6 kms!) and came 26th team out of 35 completed teams.
A big shout out to Emma McClusky who led our women’s team, with mother and daughter team Jo and Scarlett Kent, and Kath Ellis making up the four. But a big cheer to the other 11 who completed the course!
Tom Thain was our first man to finish, followed by Nehal Lavey-Kahn, and then an ever enthusiastic Alex Shuker (who later went on to collect an arm full of well-deserved trophies at the Club’s awards night!). Will Cooper completed the scoring.
