Met League Race Four: Welwyn

On Saturday 10th January a solid turnout for the Stags at Stanborough Park, Welwyn, fielding full teams for both men and women for the first time this season.  Numbers were bolstered by a cross country debut for Tom D, and a return to cross country for Lynne (both gluttons for cross country punishment, they raced the following week at the Epping mudfest!).  Added to this, the old guard of Rob, Jamie, Paul and Jerry all raced together for the first time this season in the Met League, and it shouldn’t be underestimated how much a difference they can make to team atmosphere around the camp.

Standout performances on the day came from Chloe, for the women, who has been getting stronger and stronger with each race she does for the Stags.  On the men’s side, Noah is creeping up the Met League standings with another top 100 finish (87th out of 359), Will C improving in every race, and a 4th place for the Stags from Tom D on his club debut.

Having a strong women’s team on the course was shown in their collective position of 3rd place in Division 2 on the day.  The women are currently in 4th place in the season league tables and a big push in the final race of the season at Trent Park could see them climb above Southwark for a top 3 finish.

On the men’s side, a full complement helped them to 6th place in Division 2 on the day.  In the season tables they are in a firmly positioned in mid table with Ealing Eagles and only 34 points separating both teams (the Stags are currently on top in this battle).
